Top tips for successful budgie care

Top tips for successful budgie care Different budgie owners  may have different views for the maintenance needed for a budgie. My view is that budgie care may be easy when you have one budgie, but gets a little harder the more budgies you have. There are specific things you need to do to keep your budgie alive, healthy and happy. I use a checklist to make sure I remember what I need to do daily, and so on. Here are some tips you must do to care for a budgie correctly. 1. Food Food must be given to your budgie daily. Millet and seeds can be good to feed your bird daily, but fruit must be given as well so the budgies have vitamins. Millet can be given as a treat, but must only be used as regular food on special occasions. Seeds can be bought from grocery stores and pet shops. Budgies are allowed a variety of fruit, but not garlic or avocado. 2. Cleaning Especially during times when budgies moult, cleaning the cage, the budgie's environment and perches is very important as there are ...

The strange story of how I realised Berry enjoys bathing

Image
The story of the budgie's bath Just like humans, budgies need to be able to bathe to keep their feathers and skin clean. I always wondered if my budgies would ever use their bath because for a little period of time I actually sprayed them with water. I had noticed that Berry really liked getting wet, but I had never seen her "accidentally" bathe in these water bowls.  Days later, I decided to see if Clement likes eating fruit. I place the budgies on top of the cage with a strawberry. Clement really liked eating it, but Berry had made some very odd behaviour to the fruit. She would stop Clement from eating and get onto the strawberry, ruffling her feathers. Berry was not usually this odd and there was no way she was trying to mate with the fruit like Wally does to some pens. I told someone, and they said that maybe Berry liked how cold and wet the fruit was. Soon, I changed the fruit into an apple and saw that Berry had the same behaviour. (Though the apple slice had had...

Why do budgies bite you?

Image
Why do budgies bite? Biting is a natural action that budgies do when they want to show fear or anger. Instead of stomping their feet and growling or throwing their games console out the window, budgies will screech, flap their wings or bite if something is bothering them. Sometimes, budgies bite objects they get mad with! 🤣 Biting is nothing to worry about and there are ways to avoid it. In this post you are going to learn why budgies bite and how to stop them from doing it. How do I know my budgie is biting? When your budgies bite, it is a sign they are afraid or angry; if they bite you, they're probably scared. When budgies bite each other, they are arguing and it is important that you stop them from arguing because that can lead to consequences. The budgie will actually bite the skin; it won't tap it or lick it.  Berry is afraid of my finger, so she bites me.   How do I prevent biting? You might think that stop  your pet bird from biting would be a diff...

Healthy vs UNHEALTHY foods for your budgie

Image
Healthy vs Unhealthy foods to feed your budgie It is important that you give your budgie healthy foods to give them the vitamins they need. Some foods are for giving them treats, some for eating a few times a week and others that should be given frequently as a healthy diet. The most healthy diet for budgies is fruit. If your budgie is used to seeds then there are ways you can get it to eat fruit as well (I will tell you later on). If your budgie does not eat fruit at all you can ask the vet to give you powder which puts the vitamins your pet bird needs in its water.  HEALTHY The most healthy food there is for a budgie is fruit and veggies. There is a list of fruit and veggies you can give to your budgie but it cannot be avocado or garlic. These foods are poisonous to birds, just like your saliva. Fruit and veggies contain vitamins that your budgie needs to stay healthy. Make sure you know what your budgie’s favourite fruit or veg because some budgies can be scared of the differ...

Signs of love between budgies   💗 Budgies are birds that can be great friends with other budgies and even some other parrots like cockatiels and Indian ringnecks but it is best not to risk it because they can get into a fight. There can be many ways we can tell that 2 budgies are in love or best friends. When 2 budgies love each other extremely they may make the choice to mate. Clement and Berry the budgies have become best of friends since the first day Berry entered Clement's cage. here are some signs of love and friendship between budgies.  Being together almost all the time Budgies like to be with their  partner. Every bird likes company just like how you would like to stay with a friend. It is best that the birds in love or best friends are in the same cage but always be aware that the budgies might bond with each other and it would be harder for it to bond with you.  Preening each other Good budgie friends would preen each other. Some budgies ...

A guide to budgie behaviour and body language

Image
A guide to budgie behaviour and body language  It is very important that you understand your budgie's body language. There are different reactions to when your budgie is happy, scared, angry, curious and other emotions. Body language is also important because it might be that your budgie is sick or is trying to tell you something urgent or important. These are some of the main reactions budgies do. If you want to know any other reaction let me know. I am happy to let you know! Happy When your budgie is happy, it would sing, bob its head and play with its toys. An excited budgie would sing continuously with its own chirps and voices it has learnt from you and sometimes squawk. Calm, relaxed or sleepy A calm budgie would warm itself up by puffing up and stand on one leg to sleep. A content budgie would also preen itself, make cute sounds and do beak grinding sounds when it's ready to sleep.  Hungry A hungry budgie would squawk angrily at you because it wants to eat. If...
